Wednesfield 1 Wyrley Panthers 2
Our final league game against Wednesfield once again saw Panthers play with only 8 players against a strong Wednesfield side who had already won the league after playing Panthers the previous week again fielding 8 players this due to it being Easter Holidays – players way and also the Air problems which saw our top goal scorer still stuck in America. However Panthers players where determined to play this match even with the odds stacked heavily against them. The football was smooth from both teams and Panthers had a number of clearances booted out of defence with the Wednesfield girls attackers pushing forward heavily having that extra player. With no goalkeeper Ellie this week who was down in Basingstoke for the weekend, Lizzie went in goal and pulled of a tremendous save in the first 10 minutes to keep Panthers hopes alive and also a great save pushed round the post in the last 10 minutes. Neat passing football from the defensive trio Shannon, Katie and Amy, saw Panthers have about the same amount of chances on goal in the first half as Wednesfield, Chloe almost netting from a cross, Maddy shooting just wide and Jody almost netting from a number of through balls. Wyrley went 1 behind with half time quickley aproaching, yet soon fought back in the second half with a great run from Rolo seeing Jody finish the ball 1-1. Panthers then surged forward and could have scored a few more if the ball had fallen just right. However Katie went on one of her runs weaving in and out of the Wednesfield midfield and defenders to slot home the winning and well deserved goal.
A great win girls – Well done
