Brereton Social FC 3 v Wyrley Juniors FC 2
Two evenly matched teams produced a hard fought game that would really have graced the final. Brereton were much quicker out of the blocks and capitalised on a needless free kick which was despatched into the bottom corner. This prompted a period of Wyrley pressure with a shot from Hayley Turner cleared off the line and a number of corners from Emily Quimby wasted. A mix up in the Wyrley box led to a simple second for Brereton. Wyrley’s defence of Jess Brookes, Holly Scott, Amy Marshall, Leah Fanning, Nad Bunce and Emily Downes worked hard in front of Nia Jay but long balls over the top from Brereton caused problems all game.
The second half was a different affair with Wyrley camped in the Brereton half. A free kick from Quimby after a foul on Hayley Turner, was smashed into the bottom corner. Unfortunately, another long ball resulted in Brereton pulling back their 2 goal cushion with a fine strike. A fine flowing Wyrley move released Turner whose shot rebounded for Rachel Hall to side foot home from close range to bring it back to 3 – 2.
Hard running from Laura Cumberledge, Beth Crook, Jemma Clews and Cath Davis could not produce the equaliser that perhaps their second half performance deserved.
Wyrley wish Brereton good luck in the final.
