Wyrley U16s Girls 3 Solihull Borough U16s Girls 1

Wyrley’s last game of the season and they were determined to continue their recent run of form.

As usual Wyrley were slow out of the traps and a determined defence of Amy Marshall, Leah Fanning, Emily Downes and Lottie Howells worked their socks off to protect Nia Jay in goal.  Very much against the run of play, Wyrley scored with their first serious attack when Rachel Hall moved quickly onto a cracking through ball from Emily Quimby to round the keeper and score with confidence. This deflated Solihull and Wyrley started to move through the gears. A great passing move led to Jemma Clews crossing for Hayley Turner to side foot home. Laura Cumberledge had a number of half chances before Quimby hit home inside the keeper’s right hand post from just outside the box.

Some defensive changes were made at half time, with Jess Brookes and Holly Scott replacing Leah and Lottie. Cath Davies worked well on the right and had two efforts on goal going just wide and Beth Crook also going close. Clews also had two shots that worked the keeper. Solihull pulled a goal back after the break and had chances to get a result.

Well done girls – a great season, bearing in mind the quality of the opposition.
