Playing in the Ron Smith Trophy, Lions visited Pelsall Villa. Lions came out playing very confident putting lots of pressure on the goal mouth of Pelsall Villa. It was only 10 minutes in when Jim got his first goal giving Lions a well deserved lead. With only a few minutes passed, Brandon scored Lions 2nd for it only to be disallowed from a late off-side call. This seemed to knock Lions confidence a little, with them losing their way a little in a game where they totally controlled the first 20 minutes with Luke making some great blocks and clearances at the back, Will and Shy controlling midfield, and Brad making some fantastic runs on the wing winning every ball with speed, with Jim, Liam and Brandon all keeping with the pace of the game. As Lions lost their way a little, Pelsall Villa took advantage scoring 2 very quick goals, but Lions never gave up and Liam scored Lions 2nd goal to go in 2-2 at half time.
The second half was just as exciting, with both teams having chances but neither making their mark in a very even game. Cody had a great game as captain, supporting his team mates, but the game ended as 2-2 at full time.
7 minutes extra time was played each way, but with some great chances from both sides, neither team was able to take the lead, ending extra time as 2-2.
Into a penalty situation again, for the second week running for Lions, parents nerves shattered, Pelsall Villa missed their first 2 penalties but then went on to score the next 3, but Lions taking the game to the last penalty, scored 4 out of the 5 taking the game to the win at 6-5.
All the players once again had a good game, playing well as a team, but Lions had pockets today of lack of concentration giving Pelsall Villa chances to control the game in parts. Lions still deserved the win overall, so well done lads and keep up the great team spirit to go on and win more games.
League game next week against Tower FC, so no extra time and penalties, but a win would be nice again lads !
Man of the Match was awarded to Cody. Well played everyone !
