Lions had another great game today, all the training throughout the season seems to be really paying off.
With the wind against them in the first half, Lions had some great shots with Liam, Jim, Martin and Brandon all coming close to scoring, but all going just wide of the goals. Brereton took advantage of the wind in their favour and scored first, with Liam J equalising not long after. There were some good first half battles in midfield, and just before the break, Brereton took the lead. Luke cleared a certain 3rd goal just before half time in front of goal, so Brereton went in winning 2 – 1 at half time.
Second half, Lions came out fighting, playing like the team we know they are, with a great individual run from Martin, through a number of Brereton players, to finish putting the ball in the back of the net to make it 2 – 2. With wind in Lions favour second half, there were some great individual runs on both wings, Brandon putting in some excellent crosses, Jim and Liam running onto them , and it wasn’t long before Jim got his name on the score sheet putting Lions in front for the first time at 3 – 2. Shy worked well in midfield, and Will cleared some good balls just in front of Lions defence, but Lions really wanted the win now. Brandon took a fantastic free kick when a Brereton defender hand balled a cross, to just hit the crossbar. All the team worked really hard and passed the ball around Brereton, Sean made some good saves from Brereton attempts, but Liam J went on to score Lions 4th and 5th goals, giving him his hatrick for the game.
Brereton played really well, but today, Lions were after the win, and on the day deserved the win. Lions were the stronger team in the second half. There wasn’t anyone in the team who had a poor game, the whole team played really well. Following on from last weeks 4 – 0 win over Wyrley Panthers, and todays win, lets hope Lions can get their hatrick of wins after the Easter break !
Man of the Match was awarded to Liam J who had a great game and deserved his hatrick – well done Liam.
Don’t eat too many Easter eggs lads ! Looking forward to Laser shooting next week for our Easter Party – you all deserve it for working so hard ! but you know me and Chris are going to win you at Laser shooting !
