This was a very physical game, Beacon Stars playing very hard tackling football. Lions began the game really well with Jim making the most of the first break Lions had from an excellent cross from Martin, 5 mins after kick off. Beacon applied the pressure, with some good midfield battles, but Brandon broke away on the left side which found Lions being awarded a corner cross. There was some confusion with the corner but Brandon then had a shot on goal which rocketted into the top of the net to get Lions 2nd goal. Again Beacon applied the pressure, winning a free kick just outside the box, which they took full advantage of to bring the score back to 1 – 2 at half time.
The game was very close, but Beacon came out fighting, scoring two very quick goals only 2 and 3 minutes into the 2nd half. The score now 3 – 2, for the next 20 minutes both teams worked hard to keep posession. Liam J had chances in both halves but was unable to make them count with Beacon goalkeeper saving all Liams shots. All the players played well, although Lions heads did seem to go down a little. Callum and Jake made a good first apperance for Lions, settling into the team play very well. Sean, Lions goalkeeper had to be substituted due to a shoulder injury from an awkward landing so Martin went into goal for the rest of the match. With some good individual play, and teamwork, Brandon was once again able to score to take Lions to 3 – 3. Unfortunately for Lions, this seemed to give Beacon a new lease of energy, scoring 3 goals within 4 minutes taking the score to 6 – 3 very quickly. A minute before full time, Liam had another break through to goal and this time he scored a well awaited 4th for Lions.
Full time score ended at 6 – 4. Lions could have won this game if they had kept their posistions well and taken all the opportuinites they had in front of goal. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case on the day, but you all need to keep working well as a team, pass the ball around with the skills you all have, and take your opportunities on goal well. Just be confident !
Well done everyone, lets look forward to the home game next Sunday.
Parents voted Brandon man of the match for his consistency throughout the game and helping his team mates in defence, midfield and up front at various times throughout the match. This now means Brandon is the first player this season to receive 3 man of the match awards so he will also be awarded the signed Walsall FC football on Saturday morning at training. Well done Brandon !
