After being beaten3 times last season by Coseley, the last time narrowly in the league cup final, it was with some trepidation that the 11 players from Wyrley turned out on a windy afternoon. Wyrley started well and spent long periods camped in the Coseley half. Some fine passing was once again in evidence from the black and whites. Coseley were fast on the break and several times sliced through Wyrley’s attacking midfield only to be thwarted by a solid defence of Ashleigh, Jody, Hayley B and Cath. Lauren mainly had long range efforts to contend with and handled these with ease. Tash, Vikki, Emily and Hayley T created chances and put some great balls through for Leanne and Sophie to terrorise Coseley’s defence. Wyrley had several shots saved, cleared or just miss the target before Coseley’s goal was breached. 42 mins Hayley B bought the ball from defence crossed to Sophie, who battled in the box and scooped the ball to Leanne for a simple tap in at the left hand post 0-1. 44 mins totally against the run of play Coseley pushed hard and got the equalizer when Wyrley’s defence were split by the charging Coseley forwards 1-1.
The second half started once again with Wyrley passing the ball and creating chances. Some fine individual displays in ball control by Wyrley were causing Coseley to concede free kicks all over the park. 51 mins Emily’s throw found Vikki who turned and buried a screamer in the top right 1-2. 56 mins Hayley T with another of her remarkable runs down the wing weaving in and out of tackles and sent over a sublime cross/shot that beat the keeper 1-3. ( I say cross, Hayley said shot). 75 mins Hayley T once again terrorised the defence and was once again fouled in the box and this time the ref gave the penalty. Sophie stepped up and struck a sweet shot which sent the keeper the wrong way 1-4, game over. Leanne, Sophie and Vikki had numerous attempts to add to the score line. Coseley came close to a 2nd but Hayley B once again cleared off the line.
A good solid team performance, by the 11 fantastic ladies in the black and white stripes of Wyrley. Well Played girls, give yourselves a pat on the back.
