Ladies Challenge Cup
A nice sunny day for a stroll in the park, the score may look like that, but the game was nothing like it. It took Wyrley 11 mins to get on the score sheet, Rachel side footing past the keeper 0-1. 16mins Sophie picked up Leannes cross and did a quick 2 step with the defender before unleashing a left footed shot past the keeper 0-2. Lauren made some terrific saves throughout the 1st half, many were 1 handed saves that she pushed over the bar. 31mins Rachel collected Sophies pass and smashed it into the back of the net 0-3. 33mins Cath (who said before kick off she was going on the score sheet today) bought the ball from defence and was encouraged to carry on as 3 wyrley players would have been offside if she passed, took the ball into the box and chipped the keeper 0-4.
2nd half saw Wednesfield start the quickest 47mins a run down the left wing followed by a sweet shot which left Lauren no hope of saving gave Wednesfield the belief they were still in this game 1-4. Leanne ran from the half way line rounded the keeper only to see her shot cleared off the line. 57mins Wyrleys defence were caught out on the break and the left wing shot nearly burst the back of the net 2-4. This was the wake up call for defenders Jody, Cath, Kirsty and Kelly and the marking improved from this point. 66mins Leanne raced past her marker and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box 2-5. 72mins Leannes persistant runs paid off again when she beat the very efffective off-side trap and went 1 on1 with the keeper placing her shot out of the keepers reach 2-6. 73mins and eager for her hat-trick leanne had to run from the half way line again she chipped the keeper who did manage to get her fingertips to but the ball had enough momentum to roll over the line 2-7. 82mins Rachel got her hat-trick when she smashed the ball from the edge of the box over the stranded keeper 2-8. Chelsea, Leanne, Vikki and Tash all worked their socks off in midfield, making runs, tackles and winnin a fair share of headers. Upfronters Sophie and Rachel dazzled the defenders and had a fair few shots between them. Substitutes Emily, Sam and Mary all put in a great effort and were unlucky not to be mentioned on the score sheet and more importantly not mentioned in the referees book.
