Wyrley Juniors 1 v 1 Coventry City
This was a useful friendly game for the girls prior to resuming league action next week, Coventry proved to be quality opponents and are a skilful and organised team. Coventry started brightly and put Wyrley under pressure, Wyrley however comfortably kept Coventry at bay, Jaffa marshalling the back four well, Coventry took the lead via a well worked throw in, the ball being met by an excellent strike, which hit the top left hand corner of the Wyrley goal. Wyrley did respond but just couldn’t find the final ball, Lizzie Scoines battled well up front and Kate Lawton was fit again to bolster the Wyrley attack.
The second half and Wyrley seemed to raise their game and started to get more possession, Wyrley man of the match Jaffa got on the ball more often, this time in the Wyrley midfield, ably supported by the hard working Ilora Anderson and Danni Biggs. Width was supplied well by Abi Hall and Meg Titley, Wyrley had several corners but just failed to create a clear cut chance on goal, Lucy Wells made a great run but hit her shot just wide of the goal. With the last kick off the game a Wells corner found Lawton on the back post, who tapped home the equaliser.
It is also worth a mention that the Wyrley defence held solid during the second half, Jordan Parker, Abby Judson, Hayley Leese and Ellie Whitehouse performing well. Lauren Manton was reliable in the Wyrley goal and Alicia Baker was always a threat upfront.
