LICHFIELD JUNIOR YOUTH LEAGUE DIVISION 2
MATCH REPORT 28/04/2013
FOUR OAKS PANTHERS 2 v 2 WYRLEY JUNIORS UNITED
United made the away trip to league champions Four Oaks Panthers today and even though a strong wind blew across the pitch it didn’t prevent a well contested spectacle. Both teams trying their best to use the conditions to their advantage but also both teams tried to get the ball down and play. United started with the wind helping them slightly but took a little time to settle, there was great competitiveness from both teams, but United struck first, a corner delivered superbly by Liam Morley was met by Sam Foreman, who steadied the ball before hitting a shot into the roof of the net from 8 yards out, United pushed forward again and a great through ball from Morley sent Tom Wheeldon clear who calmly passed the ball beyond the advancing keeper to put United 2 up. Lewis Hill had an effort from the edge of the box but the Four Oaks keeper was equal to it. Four Oaks created a couple of chances but Jack Addison stood firm in between the sticks to see Wyrley in front at half-time. United knew Four Oaks would come out all guns blazing in the second half, The first 10 minutes they dominated with the wind at their backs but were perhaps a little fortunate when a misplaced defensive header ran kindly for their forward to dispatch his shot in off the far post. Wyrley were punished again when a clearance from a corner was hit well from outside the box to find the corner of the net. United’s heads didn’t drop and they had their best spell of the half during the last fifteen minutes, Louie Parish hit the bar and Zak Hallett was unlucky to see a great effort from the edge of the box fly just wide of the far post. The final whistle came shortly after but United can be proud of pushing the unbeaten champions all the way today and maintaining their recent good run!
Great effort boys, once again in difficult conditions, lets keep up this momentum for our final 3 games.
