A dull day, a dull game. A case of after the Lord Mayors Parade as Wyrley took on a Cottage side that should have wanted Wyrley to pay the price for the last game. The opening goal on 5 mins was an absolute screamer from the edge of the ‘d’ which had Lauren completely wrong footed, unfortunatly it wasnt meant as a shot but a clearance from an mortified defender who wishes to remain anonymous. 10 mins later Tash sent a wicked ball across the box which Lauren air kicked and the Cottage strikers totally missed, phew. The rest of the half was mainly hit and hoof from both sides.
The second half saw Wyrley pressing for the equalizer but finding the final ball either too long or too short due to the boggy pitch. Lauren was relativly untroubled by shots but made several collections from the area before the Cottage Farm strikers could connect to score. Ash, Jody, Leah and an injured Cath held the defencive line well. Chelsea, Tash, Emily and Leanne battled well in midfield. Jemma and Sophie were mobbed by 2 or more defenders everytime they had the ball making life hard. 75 mins Jemma beat the offside and was 1 on 1 with the keeper. The keeper advanced and they collided but Jemma regained her footing to slot the ball home for the deserved equalizer.
Not a great game for the spectators this week, the game needed fresh legs and non were available. Hopefully we will have the luxury of subs next week as we travel to league leaders Stafford.
