Ferndale U17’s 3 – 5 Wyrley Juniors Girls U17’s
Well a second trip to Ferndale in two weeks and hoping that our depleated squad of 10 players would give the same sort of game was always alot to ask, but hope was revived with Ferndale having 10 players also. The game did not give much to write about, 1 shot by Charlie cleared off their line on 25 mins, then 5 mins later charlie got our second shot on goal. Ferndale kept pushing for a goal but both defences cancelled out the opposition attack. Highlight of the half was a yellow card to wyrleys number 10.
The 2nd half saw Ferndale start the brightest and a super chip beat Lauren giving them a 1-0 lead on 47 mins. Attacks from both teams gave no end result and it was turning into a dire game for the spectators, who were rather cold to say the least. 60 mins gone and Ferndale once again chipped Lauren 2-0 and Wyrley looking like the cup was over. Another 25 mins of attack and counter attack, the clock is running down when Sophie latched onto the loose ball and hit a rocket of a shot that their keeper had no chance of stopping, 2-1 and 5 mins to go. Those last 5 mins seemed to be racing away, as wyrley took chance after chance. The girls kept us waiting until the 90th minute when Kelly hit an unstoppable shot that should have ripped the net apart, 2-2. The final whistle coming straight from the kick off. Oh no extra time.
It seems that Wyrley had finally woke up as within 1min of Ko Lauri raced through from the right but her shot hit the post, but charlie was on hand to put away the rebound, 2-3. This was a much better performance than the first 80mins. 97mins Sophie gets her 2nd with what can only be described as ‘what a shot’, 2-4.
2nd half saw a revitalised Ferndale who had swapped their keeper with an outfield player giving them fresh legs, she beat the offside trap and set up their 3rd, which was well taken 3-4. With the prospect of penalties Wyrley gave everything they had, and were rewarded when Becky crossed a peach of a ball to Laurie, who made no mistake in thundering it past their helpless keeper 3-5. The last 7 mins were played at a fast pace with Ferndale trying to get back on terms, but the defence of Kirsty, Jody, Hayley and Tash held up well.download Look Who’s Talking
