Some people are lost for words after this week’s awesome performance by the Wyrley girls, some of the comments post game were pure malarkey.
Wyrley started strongly on the attack and had their 1st chance within the 1st min, unfortunately it was hoofed over from 5 foot out by Leanne. Wyrley continued to press and were rewarded on 2mins when Leanne pounced after their keeper had dropped the ball 1-0. For the next 5mins Wyrley had several shots from Sophie, Leanne, Vicky, Tash and Kelly that were either saved or just missed the target. The ‘phrase trying to hard’ comes to mind. 25mins Chelsea sends in a trademark corner, which Kirsty headed home 2-0. Chasetown tried several times to break into the Wyrley half, but the defence of Jody, Kirsty, Hayley and Ash were more than a match for them. 35mins Kelly battles through their defence and chips the keeper 3-0. Wyrley are doing everything right this week, passing the ball, holding up play, closing down players, anything asked of a team and Wyrley are doing it. 38mins Sophie sends in a pinpoint cross to Leanne who calmly slots home 4-0. 39mins same again Sophie’s excellent work rounding the defence, passed to Leanne for her 3rd 5-0. Is this the same team who beat us 1-0 in the final? 42mins Chasetown beat the offside trap with a lovely ball through to their number 8, who made no mistake 5-1. Wake up Lauren.
Second half started at a much more relaxed pace, Chasetown never stopped trying to get back into the game and chased down every ball played. 59mins Leanne chased down the through ball knocked it past their keeper and defender and bundled it over the line for her 4th, 6-1. 75mins subs Becky and Charlie came on for Vicky and Leanne, with immediate effect as Becky battled the defence and crossed to Kelly who calmly slotted home 7-1. 77mins Kelly runs at keeper her shot is saved but falls to Becky who simply side footed home 8-1. 88mins Becky hold the ball up well then a slide rule pass to Chelsea 20 yards out, who hit a rocket of a shot into the bottom left of the net 9-1. 89mins (as described by Lauri) Chelsea’s corner rippled round the box to Kelly for her hat-trick 10-1. 90mins Darren and our linesman decide to have a chat with Jody, leaving their number 8 free to score her 2nd 10-2, thanks Darren.
Chasetown did not deserve a score line like this, they were not as bad as it appears, they unfortunately came to Wyrley on a day that the girls were outstanding in every way. Well done girls.
