WYRLEY LADIES RESERVES – MATCH REPORT 5/4/2009

WEDNESFIELD LADIES  1   WYRLEY LADIES RESERVES  10

Away to Wednesfield who have picked up lately so unsure what to expect on a dry, sloping pitch. The ball was bouncing all over the place and sounded like a plumb pudding, so it was great to see it disapear over the fence into someone’s garden just after half time. Back to the match now and with another changed side. We had Jody and Chelsea back this week and started off well with a couple of 1 on 1 chances but could not find the net, we seemed to be trying too hard, however with Vikki Shaw having a great game on the wing and banging in plenty of crosses we where sure to find the net soon. This we did when Vikki went on one of her runs and as the ball came of a Wednesfield player she blasted it from outside the area into the top corner of the net – a great goal after 27 minutes.  Before half time we scored another 4 goals (Kelly Isaac’s 2 , Kelly Highman 1 and Leanne Mitchell 1). Wednesfield never gave up though and where awarded a strange penalty after the ball had bouced up between 2 players. Just as Wyrley took possession on the wing, play was called back for a penalty award to the opposition  (no appeal for a foul ? ) Still we have to respect the referee’s decision. With the score 5 – 1 at half time the ladies came out second half and put on a very professional performance of passing the ball which resulted in another 5 goals. Chelsea Burns hit the ball direct from a free kick straight into the top corner of the net, Kelly Isaac’s notched her third for a hat trick, Leanne scored her 2nd, Tash scored the goal of the match with a great shot on her right peg and Rachel Hall scored a deserved final goal to make the score 10 – 1.  Great defensive work from Jody, Emily and Kirsty smoothed out the game to allow the midfield players Mary, Chelsea, Kelly Highman  to score and create gols for the forwards. Lets not forget Lauren in goal who did what we always expect her to do – she had a quiet match but when brought into play was superb as usual.

Great game to watch Ladies
