Honours even

Wyrley travelled to Aldersley stadium on Saturday for their league clash with Penncroft. There was only a point between the teams before the game so the stage was set for a close contest. Penncroft settled quickly and threatened Wyrley down their left flank but Wyrley took the lead after 12 minutes, a great through ball from Geldart found Fowler who held off a strong challenge and slipped the ball home for his 3rd goal in 2 games. Ten minutes later it was 2-0. Jimmy Moore rose unmarked in the box from a corner to head home. The referee had made 3 bookings in twenty minutes in what was not a dirty game and he added to his tally when after 35 minutes he sent off Ryan Bradshaw of Penncroft for violent conduct after he elbowed Kalinski in the face. With Wyrley looking in a strong position Penncroft got a stroke of luck just before half time, a break saw Humphries pull off a great block, the ball bounced out and another shot went in this too was blocked by a defender only to run out to Chris Jones who hit a deflected shot in to the net.

Half time Penncroft 1 Wyrley 2

The second half saw Penncroft come out very determined  and putting on a lot of pressure although their game plan seemed to be get the ball quickly into the channels and play from there, eventually they decided to go for a bit more aerial strength and took off the impressive Stainer for the height of Reid. They got an equaliser when Carvell broke clear down the right and crossed for the unmarked Harris to steer a header home. He too was replaced shortly after in a surprise move. Wyrley now made two quick changes in an effort to win the game Martin and Darby replacing Wright and Moore. Wyrley finished strongly but couldn’t quite pull off the victory although Geldart had a great chance to wrap it up but shot wide. In the end honours even.
