Park Hill Boys 3 Wyrley Panthers 2

This game was expected to be a difficult one but Panthers were the ones showing the slick moving and passing in the first few minutes. Park Hill simply could not get the ball. Once again, a good shot from Louie in the first minute went narrowly wide but the pressure eventually paid off and on seven minutes Louie put Panthers into the lead with a well struck shot. There’s never a truer saying than you’re at your most vulnerable when you’ve just scored and sure enough, one minute later, Park Hill equalised with a fast break away, giving Panthers defence no chance. These days, Panthers don’t let this sort of thing bother them and on the eleventh minute, some neat passing from Ben and Chase found Tyler who turned on the skill himself and scored a fantastic goal, putting Panthers back in the lead. Soon after, Chase’s new found confidence drove him to take on the Park Hill defence and came very close to adding another. Panthers had the bit between their teeth and kept on pushing forward with Tyler coming close just before half time. Half time, 1-2.
The second half started brightly again with Tyler going close but, five minutes later things started to drift and Park Hill equalised on twenty one minutes. Panthers began to find it hard going and tired legs and a muddy pitch resulted in a mistimed tackle – penalty to Park Hill. Once again, Panthers keeper, Josh Perry, saved the spot kick – Phew! Panthers weren’t going to be allowed to get away with this and a minute later Park Hill took the lead – a corner into the box wasn’t cleared properly and a scrambled shot found it’s way into the net (3-2). The last two minutes were all Panthers. A forced corner on twenty eight minutes was nearly converted but finished in the side netting but then, in the very last minute, Panthers’ pressure resulted in them being awarded a penalty, a last chance get something from the game. Tyler carefully chose his spot and struck the kick low to the right but, the Park Hill keeper guessed exactly right and blocked the shot. Chase went in quickly with the follow up shot but the ball squeezed just the wrong side of the post. Full time, 3-2.
Panthers are really playing some nice football lately. Defence and mid field are working hard to get the ball to the strikers as often as possible and the tackling is good – opposition strikers are being run ragged by Ben who doesn’t hesitate to chase back from mid field to help out in defence. Defence had to work extremely hard in this game with Damian and Oscar making some very timely clearances. New to the team today was Lewis (not coach’s son Lewis), working well in mid field.
Man of the match – Oscar – Well done.
